Rachel Carson Conservation Park Adopt a Crag – March 21, 2026

Rachel Carson Conservation Park is an environmental preservation park located near Olney, MD with hiking trails and equestrian trails. Off of one of the equestrian trails is a small cluster of quartz boulders! Hosting over 30 established boulder lines ranging from V0-V10, it’s a small crag but has some unique climbing for the area in a beautiful, peaceful setting.

This is our second event at the park! Join us for a morning of trail work including erosion control and heavy briar trimming. We will also give a brief tour of the bouldering area!

Schedule:

  • Registration + Waivers: 8:45am
  • Brief Boulder “Tour”: 9:00am-9:15am
  • Project work: 9:15am-12:15pm

Registration:

Registration in advance is required – register here!

What We’ll be Doing:

We will split into two groups to tackle two separate projects on the trail. One group will work on cutting back heavily overgrown briars using electric hedgers and loppers. The second group will work on drainage work/erosion control for an area of the trail (slightly past the boulders) that is habitually wet spot due to a spring. This area of the trail will need a re-route long term, but our work will allow the trail to stay in better shape until the re-reroute can take place. All tools will be provided.

What to Bring:

  • Snacks and water for the day
  • Good sturdy boots
  • Long pants & long sleeve shirt
  • Working gloves (if you have them – we will provide for those who do not have their own)
