Raptor Closure 2019 – Cumberland Narrows

Effective March 1, 2019 The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has closed a portion of the Cumberland Narrows, aka Lover’s Leap, cliffs in Cumberland Maryland to the public.

This seasonal closures exists to protect Peregrine Falcons during their courtship, mating, and breeding. Peregrine Falcons were once endangered and, while their numbers have grown in the last decade they are still a rare and protected and they need our support!

All climbing routes on and between the Sunshine Buttress and Funland Wall are closed. This closure also includes the clifftop and cliff base. Park uses should not plan on walking through the red area in the map below.

This closure is expected to be in effect from March 1, 2019 until August 1, 2019. This page will be updated when the closure is lifted.
