Springfield Boulders is a small bouldering crag located near Accotink Creek in Fairfax County. This urban crag is a popular spot for local boulderers. We had our first event at Springfield Boulders in December of 2022 and have continued to have an event there every fall/winter. This will be our fourth event there and we will be focusing on glass cleanup and trash pickup.
This event is quite different than our typical Adopt a Crags – it’s on a weeknight, the cleanup portion is quite short, and includes bouldering after. The cleanup will just be about an hour long, followed by an hour and a half of climbing with MAC leader, Shayna! Joining in on the climbing is optional but highly encouraged. MAC will be providing several crash pads, but if you have a crash pad, please bring it with you so we can have more people climbing at once!
Please note that we have a maximum of 12 people at this event and you must be 18 or older to attend. If you find out later that you can no longer attend, please contact us so we can make the spot available for someone else.
Registration in advance is required – register here!
Schedule:
- Registration + Waivers, Begin Carpool: 4:45pm
- Project work: 5pm – 6pm
- Climbing & Raffle: 6pm-7:30pm
Where To Meet/How To Get There:
Due to the limited parking available, we’ll be meeting at the Hooes Road Park parking area and carpooling the short distance to the pull off for Springfield Boulders.
Click here to find us on Google Maps.
Once we arrive, it is a short few minute walk along the side of the road from the parking pulloff to the crag.
What We’ll be Doing:
We will be cleaning up glass shards below the main boulder and putting them into a thick container for proper disposal. We will pick up trash above the boulder, around the crag, and along the trail using trash picker tools, gloves, and trash bags (all provided by MAC).
What to Bring:
- Working gloves, if you have them (we will provide if you don’t have your own).
- Closed toed shoes
- Climbing gear (shoes, crash pad if you have one, and chalk) if you want to participate in the climbing portion of the event.
