Carderock Adopt-A-Crag 2012Located along the east side of the Potomac River in Maryland, just north of DC, Carderock is one of the most popular urban climbing areas in the Mid-Atlantic. If you can believe it, this is MAC’s 11th annual Adopt-A-Crag at Carderock, and we need volunteers to help show this historic crag some love!

Schedule:

  • Registration: 8:30am
  • Project work: 9am-12:30pm
  • Raffle 1 pm

Where To Meet/How To Get There:

Follow I-495 to Exit 13 for Carderock/Clara Barton Parkway. Drive north on the Clara Barton Parkway to the first exit for Carderock Recreation Area and the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division. Turn left and drive across the parkway on a bridge into the national parkland. Take a Right at the intersection and follow the road to the last parking area (the climbers lot) where you’ll see MAC volunteers waiting to help you get checked in. Click here to find us on Google Maps.

What To Bring:

  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Working gloves (if you have them)
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in
  • Water bottle
  • A snack

What We’ll be Doing:

Carderock gets a lot of traffic along the cliff top and at the base of the cliff, which can cause serious impact issues when left unmaintained. MAC volunteers will be mulching at the clifftop and the base to make sure we get a hold of the erosion issues and better control the overall impact. We’ll also do some minor trail brushing and trash pick up.

Register:

Given the large number of attendees in the past and the nature of the project, registration is required for this event.
