Great Falls Adopt a Crag – April 4, 2026

When you think about DC climbing, images of the steep and difficult climbs over the Potomac River are some of the first things that come to mind. Great Falls is where many of the climbers in this area first learned to climb outside, and one of the busiest National Park units around. Join Mid Atlantic Climbers on Saturday, April 4th for a day of stewardship with the National Park Service to give back to the Great Falls!

Climber on the cliff above the Potomac River.

Schedule

Registration: 8:45am

Project work: 9:00am-1:00 pm

Raffle: 1:00 pm

What We’ll be Doing

We will be removing invasive species and vegetation near the road approaching the “climbers lot” or “lower lot”. The area is overgrown with honeysuckle bush, wine berries, and other invasive plats. These unwanted plants are crowding out the native plants like the beautiful pawpaw trees in the area.

The work area has heavy overgrowth and there are thorns and vines. There may be ticks, snakes, or other wildlife so please be prepared. Please wear heavy clothing such as jeans and closed toe shoes. Some plants may be difficult to remove; we will use tools such as loppers, clippers, etc. All tools such as loppers, pruners, shovels will be provided.

Registration

Registration for this event is closed! We’ve reached out attendance limit. Thanks for all the interest!

Where To Meet/How To Get There

Meet in the climber’s lot A.K.A. the lower lot. Take an immediate right after passing through the guard house, and park in the lot at the end of the short road. We’ll set up at the end of the lot near the climber’s log in book. Because you registered, let the gate know and you can enter without paying.
