Logs down stairsEVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED DUE TO RAIN.  NEW DATE: May 3

We’re back at Ilchester!  We’ve spent lots of volunteer hours over the years maintaining this fantastic resource for generations to come. Illchester is in a high traffic area of Patapsco Valley State Park, and sees more than it’s fair share of litter and graffiti, while experiencing serious erosion issues and a high volume of climbers. MAC is committed to reducing the effects of human impact on this area, so climbers in the region can continue to enjoy this great after work crag.

Schedule:

  • Registration: 8:30am
  • Project work: 9:00am-2:00pm
  • Lunch provided!

Where To Meet/How To Get There:

We’ll be meeting at the Ilchester parking lot (Hilton Area Hiker start). However, parking here is limited. Please park a short distance away at the gated hunter’s lot (Hill Top Area #5) and walk over.

From 695 take exit 13 for Frederick Road on the southwest side of Baltimore. Go west for 2 miles or so through the town of Catonsville. Just after the light for North Rolling Road (by the Candlight Inn) take a LEFT onto Hilltop road. Follow hilltop through the neighborhood and into the park. The road will take a sharp right under the power lines and you should see the trail head and MAC volunteers directing you where to park.

  • Closed toed shoes
  • Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in
  • Water bottle

What We’ll be Doing:

We’ll be focusing on erosion control measures along the cliff top, as well as adding some step(s)/erosion control along the walk down.  This will be a fairly labor-intensive project.  Moving heavy stone, timber, as well as digging (and carrying) dirt fill.
