September 28, National Public Lands Day
When you think about DC climbing, images of the steep and difficult climbs over the Potomac River are the first things that come to mind. Great Falls is where many of the climbers in this area first learned to climb outside, and one of the busiest National Park units around. This year we are partnering with Brown Girls Climb to celebrate our most iconic locations and give back to the Park. Please register below.
- Registration: 8:30am
- Project work: 9:00am-12:00 pm
- Raffle and wrap-up: 12:30 pm
What We’ll be Doing:
We will continue to improve the River Trail, which is the main access trail used by kayakers and climbers . Due to the high levels of rain and flooding last year, this trail has been severely eroded. The work will include adding additional steps to the trail and reinforcing the base of the trail with a water retention structure. Work may be strenuous as it may include the use of heavy tools, carrying and moving dirt or gravel, and lots of bending and walking. Please consider your own level of fitness before participating in this event.
Where To Meet/How To Get There:
Meet in the upper parking lot (climber lot) of Great Falls Park. Upon entering the park, take an immediate right turn.
What To Bring:
- Closed toed shoes
- Working gloves (if you have them)
- Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in
- Water bottle
