Located in the Catoctin Mountains, Cunningham Falls State Park is one of Maryland’s most popular state parks and is home to a handful of boulders that are great for budding outdoor climbers as well as a few test pieces for the more experienced. Join MAC in collaboration with Leadership Frederick and Park Rangers on Saturday, October 19, 2024 as we work to help maintain and improve the park’s trails used by climbers and hikers alike.
Registration in advance is required – register here!
Schedule:
- Registration: 9am
- Project work: 9:30am-2pm
- Raffle: 2pm or whenever work ends
Where To Meet/How To Get There:
We will be meeting at the Cunningham Falls parking lot at the Cliff Trail trailhead on William Houck Dr.
What To Bring:
- Closed toed shoes
- Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in
- Water bottle
- Lunch and snacks
- Work gloves (if you have them)
What We’ll be Doing:
We will be building a spur trail that leads to a boulder off of the Lower Falls Trail, which involves leaf blowing, bench cutting, rock and root removal, and tamping, as well as installing several hundred feet of reforestation fencing. The reforestation fencing helps to shut down rogue trails.
