The last Saturday of August was a beautiful day at Coopers Rock, WV, and climbers from DC, MD, VA, WV and PA gathered at the Trout Pond for a day of trail work and maintenance projects at one of the regions premiere bouldering destinations. In coordination with the Coopers Rock Foundation, Mid Atlantic Climbers hosted their sixth Rockfest – a weekend of stewardship, climbing, camping and celebration.
The projects of the day included building a foot bridge, elevating a long low spot in a trail and breaking new trail near the Trout Pond Area. Volunteers also repainted the historic Shelter #4 and removed graffiti from the base of the Overlook. Lunch was generously donated by Pies and Pints, and fueled the afternoon’s climbing session.
After a day of hard work everyone enjoyed the rewards that are signature Rockfest: massive burritos, beer from Mountain State Brewing Co., an enormous raffle, and even Climber’s Trivia with guest host Don Wahl. The celebration continued Sunday with a pancake breakfast from Solid Rock Climbers for Christ, and -of course- more climbing. Visit our Facebook page for more photos.
A special thanks to everyone who came out and volunteered their time at this event!
