Author: Ocean Eiler, President of Mid-Atlantic Climbers
DC area rock climbers have long known about this area and its may splended problems. I have spent the last two years exploring this area, mapping problems and recently collecting local history on alot of the classic problems for the area. However this is a work in progress and will not be ready to be release for a while.
****UPDATE: Do to recent rehabilitation of natural habitat this area is currently reguarded as a hot spot. If you can just avoid the area please do. Other wise keeps your numbers low, follow signs and regulations in the park, and if your asked to move on by scientest or park officals be respectful.

Just off the inner loop of the beltway is a hidden bouldering treasure was recently mapped out and published on Dr. Topo. The guide is a great reference tool for the North West Branch boulder field. Do however note there is a lot of broken glass and the area can get sketchy after dark.

McAfee's Knob, VA
Author: Jay Shultis
Just South of Roanoke, this area boasts 175 established problems on over 100 boulders. Hands down, it is the best bouldering in Virginia. Problems start 5 feet from the road and end 3.5 miles up the fire road. Many FA's still await. The author Jay Shultis is an awesome cat and if I ever get my at together I will one day get him to give me a personal tour of his old stomping round.
